Core Resource Selection
Being intentional and thoughtful in selecting a core resource was important as the selection is a five-year commitment and we want students and teachers to have the best possible resources supporting instruction. A commitment (and expected outcome) was that within each of the three levels (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) a common core resource would be used so that students experience consistency in language and format as they move from grade to grade within that level.
After careful comparisons of a number of programs and considering a number of factors including standards alignment, assessment, teacher support materials, student materials, teacher training, and technology integration, the elementary (K-5) recommended utilization of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) Into Reading and middle school (6-8) and high school (9-12) recommended McGraw Hill's StudySync as a primary core resource.

HMH Into Reading™ is differentiated by design to offer a balanced approach to literacy instruction, support teachers in developing a culture of learning and growth, and help all learners believe in the power of "I can." Into Reading has been determined by CDE to be READ Act approved (a requirement for any K-3 core resource we choose), and was given an excellent rating by EdReports.org
McGraw-Hill StudySync. StudySync is a complete ELA curriculum designed to meet the rigorous academic needs of today’s classroom. In print or online, StudySync is designed to engage every student. It is a living curriculum, with rich multimedia and captivating resources added every day. It, too, was given an excellent rating by EdReports.org.
