Purpose
Two main factors contributed to the need for the Monte Vista School District to revise its English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum. First, it was time - the district ELA curriculum had not been systemically revised in quite some time. Second, the release of the 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, an update to the prior state standards, made this a particularly prudent time to revise the district ELA curriculum.
A team of ELA teachers led by the part-time district curriculum coordinator (a position created in 2017-2018 in response to the need to revise curriculum) was charged with the task of creating a district-wide ELA curriculum during the 2019-2020 school year.
The results of the ELA curriculum team work is presented here. Much appreciation goes to the team of educators who put in many hours in the process of developing this curriculum:
